How safe is your data? Are you doing enough to protect it? In today's society, it is important to understand how to protect your company's data. Activities such as sharing passwords, using identical passwords, and using personal mobile devices leave you and your company vulnerable to hacks.
The following five steps are a good start to protect yourself and your company's data from hackers:
Make sure employees do not share passwords. Passwords need to be kept confidential.
Do not use the same password for all your different programs. A unique password is more difficult to be hacked, and in the event of a successful hack, the extent of the breach is limited.
Make sure you are using a secured internet connection. You should avoid using public internet connections that make your information more easily accessible.
Use an encrypted USB drive. It is important to know if the USB drive you are putting files on is encrypted or not. If an unencrypted drive is lost or stolen, the person who has it will be able to access the stored data.
Never leave your computer unattended. A person can quickly copy data even if you only stepped away from your desk for a minute or can steal your computer, leaving your company's data vulnerable.
Practicing these steps will decrease your chances of being hacked and will limit the extent of a breach in the event of a hack.
